Tank Separator
Midwestern Industries manufactures stainless steel tanks and separators (shaker screens) that help
commercial and industrial laundries reclaim valuable heat energy from waste water.
Laundries transfer heat from hot waste water (approximately
130 degrees F) through a heat exchanger. The cold-water temperature is raised
to within about 5 degrees of the waste water. When pit waste water with suspended
solids is sent through a heat exchanger, the solids gradually reduce the heat
exchanger’s efficiency and eventually plugs its tubes. A Midwestern Gyra-Vib
separator can reduce solids to an acceptable level before the waste water goes
through the heat exchanger. Plugging is eliminated.
To save valuable floor space, the Gyra-Vib separator can be mounted directly above the stainless steel tank.
The screened, hot, waste water is stored in the tank until it is pumped to the heat exchanger.

The pit’s sloping bottom directs fiber and solids to the
low corner. Water that goes to the screen passes through a separator feeder,
reducing splashing and aeration. Screened wastewater is discharged into the
stainless steel tank, then pumped to a heat exchanger, where incoming cold water
is heated.
